Future football stars playing for ABC KICK Premier Red Kites U7s team capped off their season with a win in the League Cup Final.

The team, which was set up by semi-professional player Nicole Barrett who plays for Portsmouth FC.

She said: “I set the club up two years ago to try and bridge the gap between academy and grassroots football to offer academy sessions to all children to make high quality football accessible to every child no matter their ability, gender and socioeconomic background.

“All of our coaches play at a high level and are external to the team which means no parent coaches.

“ABC Premier has now completed two seasons and in that time we’ve supported nine boys into pre academies such as Southampton, Chelsea, Fulham, Reading and Oxford.

“Next season will be our third and we will have nine teams.”

Playing in their cup final, the Red Kites went 1-0 down to an early penalty before their opposition scored again to make it 2-0 before half-time.

After encouragement from their coaches Nicole and Megan, the team delivered a superb display in the second-half to get the game back to 2-1 before their opponents restored their lead to make it 3-1.

A free-kick from the Kites pulled the game back to 3-2 before their opponents scored again to make it 4-2 in their favour.

The Kites continued to fight back and scored twice to bring the teams level at 4-4.

In an outstanding contest between the two teams, it was the Kites who got their hands on the trophy as they completed a spectacular comeback to win 5-4.
