A BRACKNELL chamber choir has chosen a watery theme for its July concert
Thames Voyces will perform Flanders and Horovitz’s Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo.
The music group promises to delight their audience, not only with their rain-filled children’s cantata about Noah’s floating ark, but also with Chilcott’s Little Jazz Mass, and Rutter’s Feel the Spirit – a cycle of seven spirituals.
“Bracknell was once home to the Met Office, and it seems our choir retains a certain skill in weather forecasting,” said Peter Anderson from Thames Voyces.
“How could we have imagined when we began our 2023/24 season in the balminess of September last year, that by the time it got to the end of the season, we would have gone through one of the wettest periods on record?”
The choir will be conducted by music director Nick Austin and accompanied by Ben Giddens, with Ian Head as soloist for Captain Noah.
Thames Voyces gives public performances at least four times a year.
The group ‘pursues a love of singing through a wide repertoire of choral works, from early music through to the present day, whilst aspiring to reach the highest possible standards’.
They are always keen to hear from people wanting to join the choir, and are currently looking for basses especially.
Their concert, Feel The Spirit, can be heard at St Marks Church, Popeswood Road, Binfield, on, Saturday, July 6, at 4:30pm.
Tickets cost £15, with free admission for accompanied children under 16.
