A successful American burger chain is due to open ‘very soon’ as construction of its new restaurant nears completion.
Five Guys, which has more than 170 locations in the UK, is due to open its latest drive-thru at the Showcase Cinema De Lux in Winnersh.
The site is already home to the movie complex and a Costa Coffee, with the new burger restaurant being built at the far end of the car park.
While photos show the site being sealed off, the construction of the building itself has been completed, with work taking place throughout 2025.
The company website states: “Five Guys is opening in Reading Showcase very soon!
“If you’ve not visited Five Guys before, we believe that you should get your order, your way.
“That’s why there’ll be more than 250,000 possible topping combinations for your Burgers, Hot Dogs and Sandwiches. Not to mention 1,000 different Shake mix-in combinations.
“Our famous fries are a ‘boardwalk style’ fry, meaning they’re hand-cut on site each day and cooked in 100 per cent peanut oil.
“Keep your eyes peeled for the official opening date, we look forward to welcoming you soon.”
An entry for the restaurant states that it will open in January.
A project has been in the works since 2020 for Five Guys to come to the site.
These plans were submitted to Wokingham Borough Council, the planning authority for Winnersh, and were subsequently revised to provide a drive-thru element, which was approved in November 2024.
The project has resulted in the loss of around 56 parking spaces on the site, with 576 spaces being retained.
