This morning, Storm Katie lashed across the south east causing chaos everywhere.

In Woodley, scaffolding erected around shops in the main shopping precinct fell over at approximately 7.20am.

One man was walking underneath at the time and escaped without a single injury. No one else was involved and police on the scene told us that it was a lucky escape.

Fire crews now have the headache of working out how to safely dismantle the scaffolding without causing any more damage.

As you can see from our exclusive picture gallery, it will be a big job – the scaffolding has fallen down in the area where the Christmas tree usually sits and has affected a number of shops including Waitrose, Clarks, Costa Coffee and Nationwide.

Also behind the cordon is the recently closed Cargo store.

While the cordon is in place it is not possible to walk from from end of the shopping precinct to the other.

We were on the scene earlier today and found out more about the incident.
