QUEEN Anne’s School saw students take home a top set of GCSE results this year, with 97% of grades achieved at 9 to 4 – the new equivalent of A* to C grades.
With more than a third (35%) of GCSE grades marked at 9 or 8 and 60% of grades at 9 to 7, the school has plenty to be pleased about.
“We have seen exceptional all-round achievements from this year group. Their academic success has been balanced with their performance outside of the classroom, and their commitment has been admirable to see,” said headmistress Julia Harrington.
“The vast majority of girls will continue their Sixth Form education at Queen Anne’s and we look forward to supporting this vibrant group of girls in the next step of the journey.”
60% of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) grades were at 9-7, while four in every five students scored an A* or an A in Further Maths.
As 58 out of the 70 girls entering the School’s Lower Sixth intend to study STEM subjects, Ms Harrington added that “the future of women in STEM is bright”.
Other subjects also performed exceptionally well; Physical Education, Spanish, German, Physics, Latin, Computer Science, Business, Chinese and Russian all had a 100% success with grades 9-4.
The athletes of the school took home fantastic results too. Keen rower Camille Blunt, who qualified for the Women’s Henley Regatta with the Queen Anne’s team, secured 9 GCSEs, five 9/8 grades and two 7s.
Amelia Hanson, part of the Lacrosse and Netball teams, took home seven 9/8 grades, two 7s and is hoping to study Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths at A level.
Art students also deserve a special mention, as 89% of students scored grades 9-6.
And there was particular delight in the King household when results were revealed, as twins Annie and Holly were both pleased with their GCSEs. Annie achieved straight 9/8 grades, and took home the most inspirational year 11 artist at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Show. Meanwhile, Holly was awarded the Upper Five Prize for Progress at the School’s annual Speech Day and intends to study Psychology, English Literature and Economics at A Level.
Musician and pianist Anna Tikhonova also deserves special mention, as she achieved 10 GCSEs with four at 9/8 grades.
Ten girls were awarded the Headmistresses Sixth Form Scholarship. One drama scholar, Abby Hutt, has led many school productions and plans to direct a student-led Sixth Form production next term. She secured 9/8 grades and will be studying Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Further Maths at A level.
