GCSE students at the Forest were delighted with their results this year, as many pupils went beyond their expected grades.
Headteacher Shirley Austin said: “We are very proud of the results of all our boys, they have worked incredibly hard as the school has gone through a challenging 5 years. These results continue to highlight the great strides taken in moving to above national standards.
“Typically we see girls outperform boys at GCSE and today our results are compared with all schools across the country, not just the 200 all-boy schools. Our results show, when compared to boys-only results, we see the superb results our boys have achieved today.”
All students achieved their the government standard pass rate in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, while 81% passed in English and Maths.
This year, 21% of pupils took home grade 7 or higher in English, 22% in Maths, 72% in Physics and 76% in Biology.
59% of Chemistry students achieved grades 7 to 9, as did 25% of Film Studies, a quarter of Geography and History students and over a fifth of French students.
Ms Austin continued: “I would like to congratulate all our students and look forward to continuing our journey with so many of our boys who are staying on to study A-levels as well as welcoming boys and girls from our local community joining us in Year 12.”
Dan Osagie-Oviasu was particularly pleased with his results. His teachers said he was an exceptionally hard worker, and that effort had most definitely paid off — he received both 8s and 9s in all subjects.
“I was really nervous just before. I tried my best in all my exams but I wasn’t sure if it was enough,” he said. “But I’m really pleased now.”
Joe Turner was another success story and is excited to start his Maths, Economics and Physics A-levels next month. “It was a bit of a shock to see my results. I’ve done much better than expected,” he explained.
Other students who have achieved grade 7 or above in more than nine subjects include: Qasim Arain, Hishaam Ashraf, Marcus Bailey, Meuel Bodi-Ngwala, Euan Deas, Alastair Glen, Toby Irving, Jude Lawrence, Michael Linder, Harry Maple and more.
