A FORMER Wokingham borough councillor has been celebrating a significant milestone for a fundraising group he is involved with.
David Chopping was recently presented with a certificate to mark 50 years membership of the Freemasons.
It was presented by Berkshire’s Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Matthew Walker at a special meeting at Sindlesham Lodge on Friday, September 15.
Mr Chopping’s brother Keith was among those who attended.
He became a member of the Sindlesham Lodge back in 1973, when he was 27. His father, one of the founders of the lodge, led the ceremony. In April 1984, Mr Chopping became its master.
Working as a Chartered Surveyor, somehow, he was also a stalwart of the Wokingham Hockey Club, a borough councillor for 16 years, and 32 years of Earley Town Council, serving as its first mayor in 2005.
He and his wife Margaret enjoy combining holidays with their passion as ‘twitchers’ (bird watchers).
Since their retirement travelling has become another favourite pastime for the couple.
