BUSINESSES, schools, and charities are invited to participate in a new Wokingham Swimathon.
Organised by the Wokingham Lions Club, the scheme enables schools, charities and local organisations to enter a team of swimmers to raise funds, either for themselves or their nominated charity, with groups getting to keep every penny they receive in donations.
Each team will swim for 50 minutes, in relay format, and to achieve as many laps of the pool as they can in that time.
Adults swim a lap, but young children can swim one length, with another child swimming the return length (25 metres).
It’s not a race – it’s about having fun, say the organisers.
People will be swimming with friends, family or colleagues while at the same time supporting those in need.
A spokesman for Wokingham Lions said, “We invite organisations to book their place now as there is only room for 30 teams.
“Entrants have until the day of the event to put together their team of up to eight swimmers.
“Participants will be registered on the day, and can be of all abilities, but must be eight years or older.”
The event will take place at Wokingham Leisure Centre, on Saturday, June 22.
The first session begins at 5pm.
