COMMUNITY spirit was the name of the game as Arborfield was treated to an afternoon filled with food, fun and friendship on bank holiday Monday.
Engage, Arborfield Green Events Committee, welcomed around 400 people to the village’s cricket pitches for its annual summer fete.
Many arrived before organisers had even finished setting up, while others found themselves drawn to the site by either the stalls, music or out of curiosity to find out what was going on.
Members of the committee expected around 200 people to attend but were delighted to exceed their target, with Wokingham Borough Council Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland dropping in.
Of the event, organiser Sophie Ames said: “It was amazing. The place was busy and we’ve received so much positive feedback.
“There was a really nice vibe to the event. People came with their picnic blankets and were more than happy to drop in, sit down, make an afternoon of it and enjoy the atmosphere.
“It goes to show that there clearly is more need for events like this in the area.”
Local brewery Mysterious Brewing was on-site to give people a taste of their best products, as well as a range of food stalls, while younger visitors took to the bouncy castle to release their energy.
Moving forward, organisers hope to continue bringing community events to the people of Arborfield, with a food festival scheduled for October 27.
