A SELF advocacy group for people with learning disabilities kicked off activities on the first day of the month with an AGM.
And members of CLASP Wokingham can look forward to more events during October.
On Saturday, October 5, they will attend a Volunteer Fayre at the Wokingham town hall, and the following Saturday, will be at a Local Offer Live event at St Crispin’s School, Wokingham.
On Tuesday, October 15, they will attend a Learning Disability Partnership Board (LDPB) Health and Wellbeing day.
Michele Munro from CLASP, said: “We will have lots of services attending, and anyone from, or with a link to, the learning disability community is welcome to this drop-in event at The Bradbury Centre, Wokingham from 10am until noon.”
Representatives from Adult Social Care, podiatry, Community Vision, Age UK, NHS, dentistry and Supported Employment will be offering services and advice.
“The LDPB events continue with Hate Crime Awareness week (October 12 to 19), sadly something which our members have experienced first-hand,” said Michele.
Thames Valley Police will meet with the group to talk with them about disability hate/mate crime and what can be done to stop it, at the Bradbury Centre, on Friday, October 18, from 10am until noon.
Other talks in the group’s Take Notice series are on Friday, October 4, when members will discuss Black History Month, and on Friday, October 11, when they will learn about the launch of the Victory Theatre Project.
Regular CLASP group sessions continue too, including: Movie Mates, Coffee Shop, Dancing to Music, Book Corner, Happy & Healthy Club, Sports & Fitness sessions, Craft Club, Evening Drop-In at Sedero Lounge, Active Session with My Journey and Woky Bikes 4 All, Gardening Club, Take Notice, Puzzle Club and Choir.
