A CHARITABLE organisation has distributed 2,300 meals to the community.
Rotary Club of Maiden Erlegh (RME) provided the food to individuals and families in the community throughout January and February.
The frozen meal distribution was a joint effort between RME, The Thomas Franks Foundation’s ‘Feeding the Communities’ program, and Leighton Park School.
RME raises funds and oversees the distribution process, while Thomas Franks Foundation staff at Leighton Park School prepare and package the meals.
Leighton Park School offers its premises as the central hub for cooking and distribution, with meals delivered by Rotary to various community hubs across Reading, Shinfield, Winnersh, Wokingham, and Finchampstead.
These hubs, including community centres, churches, food banks, and food share organisations, then pass on the meals to local families in need.
The meals were funded by the proceeds raised at a charity art and craft fair held by RME in October.
Richard Nicholson, President of RME, said: “This project is a significant endeavour for us, and we are thrilled to be able to assist so many people throughout the area.
“The generosity of the public at our art and craft fair has made this possible.
“And our partnership with the Thomas Franks Foundation and Leighton Park School has been instrumental in providing real benefits to the local community, particularly during these challenging times.”
