A government minister was on the election trail in Sonning yesterday (Sunday), lending his support to the Conservative candidate for the new Woodley and Earley constituency.
Tom Tugendhat, the Secretary of State for Security, spent time knocking on doors in Pound Lane with Pauline Jorgensen and a group of councillors and supporters, including Philip May, the husband of former Prime Minister Theresa May.
Speaking exclusively to Wokingham Today, Tom said: “I’m delighted that we’re out on the doorsteps, and we’re talking to people.
“Pauline is a fantastic candidate, and having somebody who really understands the community, who’s worked for this community and worked for so many people in many different ways over a number of years now, is really having an effect, because people know what this election is about.
“This is about delivering for them. It’s not about Westminster. It’s about Earley and Woodley.”
Asked what people he spoke to in Sonning, were telling him, he said: “They’re focused on things like schools and road speeds, .. but they’re also focused on some national issues.
“They don’t know what Sir Kier Starmer stands for. They have no idea what he’s going to do.
“They do like the fact that we’re bringing down inflation, that we’re making the country safer, and that we’re delivering a more secure future for everyone also.
Pauline was pleased to have more high-profile support in her bid for a seat in Westminster at next month’s general election.
She said: “It’s always a pleasure to have Tom here.
“He’s very knowledgeable on all sorts of subjects.”
