A MUSICIAN’s 48 hours long free concert raised money for children and churches
Winnersh flautist, and former Welsh Guards musician, Peter Lewis, played continuously for 48 hours.
He raised £1,200 which will be divided between St Catherine’s Church, Bearwood, St Mary’s Church, Winnersh, and First Days Children’s Charity.
The money will help pay for church repairs, and will provide much needed funds for the children’s charity.
St Mary’s Church has suffered leaks, and St. Catherine’s Church requires new heating.
First Days Children’s Charity supports families experiencing financial hardship in the borough, and provides clothes and necessities for youngsters.
The event at St Mary The Virgin Church, Winnersh, began on Friday, June 30, at 5pm..
Mr Lewis kept playing until Sunday, July 2, at 5pm.
“It went very well,” he said.
“Quite a lot of people came to listen, and visitors enjoyed the barbecue.
“Not many musicians came to join me, so I didn’t get many breaks, but I did manage to stay awake for the whole 48 hours.”
Mr Lewis was playing a new instrument during the concert.
“It was a great test for my new flute,” he said.
“I enjoyed playing it a lot.
“In fact, I’m taking it with me for a try out with Trinity Concert Band this week.”
After 48 hours awake and making music, was Mr Lewis tempted to take a long nap?
“Not at all,” he said, “I went to bed maybe just a little earlier than normal, and got up as normal.
“I don’t have time to stick around in bed.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported the fundraising.
“And it was nice to meet First Days Charity members who dropped in to the event.”
There is still time to support Mr Lewis’s just giving campaign.
