It was a weekend of high drama, sweltering temperatures, and crucial shifts in power across the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division One last weekend.
After a testing few weeks, Wokingham Cricket Club 1st XI roared back into form with a clinical, commanding seven-wicket victory over Great Brickhill at Sadlers End.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl paid dividends for the Oaks. The bowling attack put on a masterclass in discipline, choking the Great Brickhill top order and picking up regular wickets.
The visitors ground out 189 before being bowled out, setting a target that looked competitive but well within Wokingham’s reach.
In response, the Oaks’ top order showed immense maturity. Navigating a tricky opening spell, Wokingham’s batsmen took control of the chase.
A couple of stellar partnerships ensured there would be no repeat of recent collapses.
Wokingham cruised across the finish line at 190/3, losing just three wickets along the way, to secure a massive injection of points and put a smile back on the faces of the Sadlers End faithful.

Elsewhere, local rivals Finchampstead were involved in an absolute classic at Slough. With both teams pushing hard at the upper end of the Division One table, this was always going to be a heavyweight clash, and it more than delivered.
Slough batted first and looked in formidable shape on a hard, fast track, power-hitting their way to a hefty 251/8 from their allotted overs.
Finches’ bowlers had to work overtime in the heat, displaying brilliant death-bowling to keep the target within touching distance when Slough threatened to completely run away with the game.
Finchampstead’s chase was an exercise in pure grit. Despite losing early wickets, the middle order anchored the innings superbly.
As the overs ticked away, the tension rose. Finchampstead pushed hard for the win but ultimately finished their overs on 229/8.
Because neither team could find the final breakthrough to secure a victory, the spoils were shared in a hard-fought draw.
The result keeps Finchampstead firmly entrenched in the leadership charge at the top of the table alongside High Wycombe.

The local fixtures don’t get any easier as we head into Week 8. Wokingham face another massive test as they prepare to host Slough at Sadlers End, hoping to carry the momentum from the Great Brickhill win.
Meanwhile, Finchampstead return to the Memorial Ground for a highly anticipated blockbusting clash against joint-contenders High Wycombe.
