Following the resignation of Keir Starmer (Monday 22 June) as prime minister and leader of the Labour party, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham has called for a fundamental shift in British politics.
Clive Jones MP has called for an end to the “soap opera” in Number 10, as the UK faces its 7th Prime Minister in just 10 years.
Jones said Labour are continuing the Conservatives’ legacy of chaos and instability in its leadership and the British public deserve better.
The Liberal Democrats are urging Keir Starmer’s successor to create real change for local people on the cost of living and the NHS.
He said that In Wokingham, the Lib Dems say in the next election it will be a clear choice between them and the Conservatives and say they will always fight for a fair deal for local people.
Responding to Keir Starmer’s resignation, Jones said: “People across Wokingham and the country are sick of being let down by an endless merry-go-round of Prime Ministers, while nothing really changes for them.
“Labour promised change, but we’ve ended up with the same old chaos as under the Conservatives.
“It’s time to end this Westminster soap opera and get on with delivering positive change for people in our community.
“That means tackling soaring bills to put money back in people’s pockets and fixing the NHS so people can see a GP when they need to and for hospitals like the Royal Berks to be rebuilt after years of delays.
“Whoever becomes prime minister needs to end the chaos and focus on getting the country back on track.”
