Members of CLASP welcomed a TV legend to their gathering last week,
Children’s television star Timmy Mallett, and his pal,and former Wacaday cameraman Stevie, arrived on their bikes after cycling from Cookham, with Timmy’ famous sidekick Pinky Punky, who soon got to work with a gentle bonk on the head.
Timmy was greeted with his catchphrase ‘we’re wide awake’, and members were encouraged to stick their tongue out and say ‘bleurgh’, as a fond reminder of the Wacaday game.
Timmy had a much-loved brother, Martin, who had down syndrome, so is a big advocate for those with learning disabilities to live their best lives, alongside the importance of chat and combating loneliness.
Speaking exclusively to Wokingham Today, Timmy said: “I’ve heard so much about CLASP, and how they are changing lives in Wokingham and making such an important impact.
“When they contacted me and asked me if I’d come and see them, I made the effort to come and cycle here, and to come into Wokingham and see everybody making the most of what they’ve got.
“And that’s all we have to do, isn’t it, to be the best that we can be. And that’s what CLASP is enabling people to reach their potential.
“I think it’s been utterly, utterly brilliant being here.”
A spokesperson from CLASP added: “Thanks for popping down, Timmy and Stevie, we had such a fun time, you haven’t changed a bit.
