On March 28 and 29, Oakwood Climbing Centre, located between Wokingham and Bracknell, will host The Mighty Oak, its annual flagship bouldering competition, giving local climbers the opportunity to compete alongside national talent.
Past finalists have included 2025 British boulder champion Jack MacDougall, 2024 Olympian Molly Thompson-Smith and 2024 British boulder champion Sam Butterworth.
The highlight of each day is the live evening showcase final, which is free for spectators. Top competitors will battle for a share of the £3,750 prize pot and to be crowned ‘The Mighty Oak’.
Members of the public are invited to watch some of the best climbers in Britain compete.
“Bringing national climbing talent into the area is incredibly inspiring for the local community here, particularly for our younger climbers, who rarely have the chance to compete in a live finals format,” said Pete Yearsley, competition organiser and climbing centre manager.
“Making the finals free to attend means everyone can experience the atmosphere and excitement of high-level climbing.”
This is the fourth year The Mighty Oak has been running, expanding from a one-day event into a two-day competition with separate adult and youth categories.
“We split The Mighty Oak into a two-day event so we could dedicate a full day to youth climbers and give them a richer competition experience, including live showcase finals.
“These are still very rare at youth competitions, but gives young climbers valuable experience performing in front of a crowd – something that becomes important as they progress towards national events,” said Jasper Goffe, performance head coach at Oakwood Climbing Centre.
The live evening finals will take place on both days, starting at 6.30pm on Saturday and 5.45pm on Sunday.
Spectators are welcome, and entry is free.
