FUN, shine and showers. That was the recipe for Sunday’s successful Winter Extravaganza in Woodley town centre.
Entertainers, stalls, Santa and refreshments all came together for a day out for all ages, and organisers couldn’t be happier with how it went, even though the weather was a bit iffy.
As ever, the Crockhamwell Road shopping precinct was packed with stalls from charities and community groups, who organised tombolas, sale of goods, and games, all with the aim of raising funds and awareness.

Among those taking part were Cats Protection, Scouts, and Women’s Institutes.
Small and local businesses were able to showcase their products, and included arts and crafts, as well as present ideas.

Members of Woodley’s Rotary Group had its barbecue going to serve up bacon butties and burgers, while other stalls offered a mixture of street food to try.
Throughout the day there was entertainment on the Centre Stage, including Steppin’ Out Stars of Tomorrow, singer Charis-Anne, and Olga and her Dancing Dogs.

Members of Circus Scene were in the precinct entertaining with juggling displays, and helping Santa in his sleigh.
Also in attendance was town crier Tony Roper, and MC for the day, Jack Sulman.

The event was opened by Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland, and Woodley Town Mayor Cllr Janet Sartorel.
“Thank you to the Woodley Town Centre partnership who organise this event every year, without it, Woodley would be a much sadder place,” Cllr Rowland said.
“There are so many stalls, I’m sure you’ll find some wonderful Christmas presents and help support the many charities here today,” Cllr Sartorel said.

Afterwards, Woodley Town Centre manager Brian Fennelly had a broad grin on his face as a result of a successful day, despite the showers that persisted throughout the day.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” he told Wokingham Today. “We had a huge turnout from the people of Woodley. They always come out in force to this event and, once again, they haven’t let us down.
“We’ve been able to put on even more stalls this year and some great Christmas presents were bought, we’ve had some great food stalls, and some fantastic entertainment on the stage, so it’s been a great day.”
