A WOKINGHAM parish priest took part in The Royal Parks Half Marathon, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Rev’d Canon Richard Lamey’s run took him through central London, a scenic route that passes numerous tourist attractions.
“I loved all of it, genuinely,” he said.
“I was running with a best friend of 28 years, Felicity Shaw, and her daughter, Gracie Hardman, so the company was perfect.
“Bizarrely, it was actually relaxing, and we were all still chatting 11 miles into the run.
“The first half was filled with massive crowds, and we passed Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Big Ben, The Mall – it was really lovely.
“Felicity and I both have family reasons for wanting to support Macmillan Cancer Support.
“My mum died of cancer when I was 20, so it’s a charity dear to my heart.”
Mr Lamey ran his first half marathon last year for Royal Berkshire Hospital, and plans to run again.
“I’d definitely repeat the experience, but I enjoyed it so much that I hope I haven’t set the bar too high for myself this year.”
Mr Lamey has raised more than £1,000 for the cancer charity.
His JustGiving page is still open for anyone wishing to support his fundraising effort.
