TO MARK next week’s National Volunteers Week, Wokingham Volunteer Centre team members are inviting people to coffee.
They will be holding a drop-in coffee morning from 10.30am on Tuesday, June 4, at its offices in the Charity and Community Hub in Erfstadt Court, Wokingham.
The event is open to anyone who wants to find out more about volunteering.
The week is an opportunity to celebrate the work volunteers do, such as helping a school child to read, chatting to an isolated older person, or helping at a Guides or Scout group.
Other roles include sorting donations for families in crisis, driving someone to an essential medical appointment or helping with shopping.
Helena Badger, volunteer services manager at Wokingham Volunteer Centre, said volunteers are a critical and essential part of our local charities and should be thanked for their valuable service.
“It really does change people’s lives; both those who volunteer and those who are helped by volunteers,” she said.
“Volunteering can help you gain new skills, meet new people, test the water for a career change, allow you to give something back and help a cause you really believe in.”
Anyone who wants to volunteer, even with a couple of hours a week, can find opportunities on the Wokingham Volunteer Centre website, www.volunteerwokinghamborough.org.uk, by calling: 0118 977 0749 or emailing: volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk
