Councillor Carol Jewell, the Wokingham borough mayor, has opened the new Little City Central Berkshire branch.
She marked the occasion with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside branch owner Rachael Thompson.
The opening event took place at Barkham Village Hall and was attended by local families, councillors, community representatives and the Little City team.
The opening of Little City Central Berkshire branch is the latest expansion of the national franchise, which offers mobile role-play experiences for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. The Little City concept allows children to explore the world around them in a fully mobile, child-sized role-play world, which includes a supermarket, vets, a construction site, a salon, and an emergency services hub. Young children have the chance to explore real-world environments through imaginative, hands-on play.
As a national franchise, the Central Berkshire branch has been opened by local mum, Rachael Thompson, who said: “Little City brings imaginative play to life in a brilliant way.
“It’s really special to watch young children create new worlds where they can be anything they want.
“Imaginative play is so important for a child’s development, and these sessions are a great way to build a local community where children, parents and carers can come together in a supportive environment.
“I’d like to thank the mayor for coming along to our official opening and conducting our ribbon-cutting ceremony. It feels like a really special moment, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Speaking at the opening, Cllr Carol Jewell said: “It is a privilege to officially cut the ribbon for Little City in Central Berkshire. It’s such a wonderful environment for young children, and it will be an asset to the local community. Anything that encourages early years development should be a priority for local families, and it is fantastic to see the launch of the new Little City sessions.
“I wish Rachael and the Little City team all the best and look forward to hearing more about them.”
