Imagine opening your local newspaper – and reading an announcement of an upcoming murder!
Agatha Christie’s classic story is set in the charming village of Chipping Cleghorn. The locals’ curiosity entices them to the advertised location, eager to witness the game or practical joke…but instead they find themselves at the centre of a real crime. Amateur sleuth Miss Marple must unravel the mystery of deception, secret identities, blackmail and intrigue in the most unexpected places.
Adapted by Leslie Darbon, this production offers something a little different – it’s been reimagined as a staged radio play, accompanied by live music, a Foley Artist, and engaging storytellers.
Director Gemma Roch says “Every person in this project has brought their enthusiasm to the rehearsal room, and by staging the story as a radio play, we have been able to push a few boundaries compared to a traditional play set-up. The team has experimented with character development, sound effects, atmosphere and storytelling. I am hoping the audience will feel that they get to be part of the mystery, and at the same time very ‘at home’ with Miss Marple and the neighbours!”
“A Murder Is Announced” is presented by LB Productions. The theatre company provides engaging theatre for audiences and focuses on enabling local talent to get involved in community theatre (within a professional environment). So why not come along to see the show – perhaps you’ll be inspired to join the company in their next production and become part of their growing community!
The show runs from Wednesday 12th February – Saturday 15th February 2025 in the Wilde Theatre at South Hill Park; tickets are available at www.Southhillpark.org.uk
