A WOMEN-LED community interest company is bringing hands-on DIY workshops to Wokingham, that are designed to help women build practical skills, confidence, and independence in their own homes.
Founded by two local women, Sarah Bolger, a qualified electrician, and Justine Wortsman, who has an extensive background in events, Nail It DIY was created after recognising how many women felt excluded from learning practical skills or lacked the confidence to get started.
“We started this because we saw how many women felt unsure even picking up a drill,” said Justine.
“It’s not just about learning skills — it’s about building confidence and feeling capable in your own home.”
Nail It DIY has already supported over 200 women across Berkshire and surrounding areas, with demand continuing to grow.
The project has received local council backing and has been featured by regional media including BBC Berkshire and ITV Meridian.
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), Nail It DIY reinvests profits back into the business to support wider access, including subsidised places and community outreach.
The team also works with local organisations and community groups to help reach women who may otherwise face barriers to attending, with referrals welcomed for future sessions.

Workshops focus on everyday home maintenance, including how to safely use drills and fixings, alongside practical skills in areas such as basic electrics and plumbing.
Sessions are designed to be beginner-friendly, supportive, and welcoming, with no prior experience needed.
Wokingham workshops will include two standalone sessions: DIY One, and Home Maintenance, allowing participants to choose the areas most relevant to them.
They will take place at St Sebastian’s Memorial Hall, Nine Mile Ride, on Sunday, July 5.
