A READING multiple sclerosis (MS) charity has launched its latest exercise challenge to raise funds to support more local people living with the condition.
This is Berkshire MS Therapy Centre’s ninth Go Challenge annual exercise fundraiser.
Its theme this year is Beside the Seaside, and as recipients of the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service this year, the centre is recognizing this great honour by taking in the King Charles III Coastal path (virtually!) and plan to finish their 1889km route at Buckingham Palace in time for tea with the King.
Members of the centre, who all live with MS themselves, will be covering the distance by using exercise bikes in the gym, attending exercise classes and also walking outside of the centre.
Freia Pagdin, senior fundraising manager at the centre said: “The Go Challenge is a great way for our members to come together, have fun, exercise and raise money for the centre.
“We’re really enjoying dressing up to fit the Beside the Seaside theme and listening to the best of British music in the gym.
“We receive no NHS funding and we need to raise nearly £700,000 a year to carry on our vital work.
“We would be thrilled if people could sponsor our Go Challenge team so we can exceed our £6,000 target.”
Berkshire MS Therapy Centre offers specialised therapies including oxygen therapy and physiotherapy, as well as a social space for individuals living with MS throughout Berkshire and its surrounding areas.
Although there is currently no cure for MS, the therapies provided at the Centre significantly enhance the quality of life for those affected.
Centre member Amanda Pocock said: “It’s great that this is a challenge that everyone can take part in, including all of us who are living with MS.
“It’s great fun, and I hope everyone will support us.”
The challenge will run until 22 May.
