A SPORTS club in Sonning is throwing its support behind a national charity challenge.

On Wednesday (31) Sonning Hockey Club, in Sonning Lane, will take part in Hockey for Heroes’ Operation Stretcher, which sees a squad of 44 people taking it in turns to carry a stretcher-bound Royal Marine from Cardiff to Marlow Hockey Club.

The squad will cover a total of 200 miles, stopping off at various clubs along the way to play a total of 30 games of hockey.

The tour will stop in Sonning on day number six, with the game due to start at 6pm. All are welcome to come along and support the challenge and the teams.

The challenge will end in Marlow on Sunday, June 4, and hopes to raise money for military charity Help for Heroes.

Joel Forrester, Hockey for Heroes CEO said: “We are about to embark on this 10 day objective, we feel prepared and ready to take this challenge head on.
