BOROUGH charity Understanding Dementia is holding its annual fundraising Barn Dance in June.
Organisers promise a great night, with a traditional Ceilidh band,p loughman’s supper, raffle and pay bar.
The emphasis is very much on having fun rather than getting all the steps right, and an experienced caller will be on hand to lead everyone through the dances.
Salam Jomaa, Understanding Dementia’s new administrator, said: “This will be a lovely community event, bringing people together for an evening of dancing and fun, as well as raising funds for a great cause.”
Understanding Dementia provides free training and support for family dementia carers, whether they are supporting someone within their home or from a distance, and regardless of whether they yet have a dementia diagnosis.
It also offers cost-effective training for health and care professionals and volunteers.
The charity’s founder and lead trainer Shirley Pearce said: “We are hugely grateful to our event sponsors Sheeplands Self Storage and Blue Angel Care; and also to the local businesses who are sponsoring individual dances, donating raffle prizes and contributing towards the food.
“We appreciate all the support they give us so that we can continue to help, support and advise as many family dementia carers as we can, free of charge.”
The event will take place at Loddon Hall, Twyford, on Saturday, June 6, from 7.30pm until 11pm.
Tickets, which should be reserved online cost £15 for adults, and £10 for children, and include the ploughman’s supper.
All are welcome, children included.
The booking deadline is May 31.
