The Wokingham Lions Club has teamed up with the Wokingham Theatre to sell tickets for a charity performance of Bronte on Wednesday, June 12, prior to opening night the following evening.
“We would like to thank the Wokingham Theatre for their generosity in allowing us to sell tickets for the final dress rehearsal performance of Bronte. All proceeds will be donated to worthy local charities,” said Bob Westerman, fundraising coordinator, Wokingham Lions Club.
The story is about the Bronte sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne, who are well known as poets and novelists. They grew up in Yorkshire in the 19th century, and originally published their stories under male pseudonyms.
Charlotte wrote Jane Eyre; Emily wrote Wuthering Heights and Anne published The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. All are accepted as masterpieces of literature.
The play depicts their childhood, growing up in an isolated parsonage on the Yorkshire moors, with an overbearing father, and a brother who struggles to cope with his family’s expectations.
The Bronte sisters use their imagination to create powerful and passionate characters in their complex stories.
The play provides a fascinating insight into this extraordinary literary family.
Bronte is written by Polly Teale and directed by Jessica Hadleigh. Cost of tickets is £12.
