RUMOURS are circulating that a Wokingham town centre car park.
Staff at the Euro Car Park in Denmark Street told The Wokingham Paper that they were not allowed to comment on the whispers that the venue will shut later this month.
And attempts made to clarify the situation have been met with a stony wall of silence.
The car park in Denmark Street is usually packed with vehicles as it is the nearest to the town centre, backing on to several shops.
Earlier this year, we revealed that a developer has drawn up plans to turn the Euro Car Parks behind Denmark Street into a housing development.
Three buildings are also affected: Seymour House and 3 and 4 The Courtyard, home to the former Wokingham Police Station which has remained empty since its closure. The development would be a mixture of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
A planning application has been submitted but it is thought it will not be approved.
On June 24, an email from Euro Car Parks to The Wokingham Paper read: “Thank you for contacting Euro Car Parks Customer Service Team.
“Please note, this is an automated response to confirm that we have received your email and will update you accordingly.
“You can expect a reply by email within the next 10 working days.”
This story was published in the July 18 edition of The Wokingham Paper. We still have not had a proper response from Euro Car Parks.
