A new community hub will be opening its doors on Friday, October 7, in neighbouring Bracknell, with an aim of helping Ukrainians as well as the wider community.
Called Vsi Razom, which means ‘all together’ in Ukrainian, it will offer specific support and help to people who have settled in the area following Putin’s illegal invasion of our European neighbour.
It includes space for groups to meet, English lessons, opportunities to seek help from advisors, and to collect pre-loved items including clothes, furniture and toys. If more volunteers come forward, the centre will be able to open for longer.
Ashleigh Toomey and Natalia Vil have been transporting goods to help the country since the start of the year, but as Ukrainians began to come to Berkshire, they wanted to continue their support, and help the community as a whole.
Hence the hub, which will open in The Lexicon’s Princess Square.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local community to our Ukrainian appeal and wanted to find a way to continue to help Ukrainians new to the area that could benefit other people too,” Ms Toomey.
“We are really grateful for the support from Kerith Community Church, The Lexicon and Bracknell Forest Council for enabling the Vsi Razom Community Hub to open.”
Sarah Walker, social justice lead at Kerith, added: “It’s been a joy to see the commitment and dedication that Natalia and Ashleigh have put into supporting the people of Ukraine these past few months.
“We are delighted that we have been able to support them in acquiring premises to continue to provide help both overseas and locally.
“We believe the new community hub will be a lifeline for many local Ukrainian families seeking support, advice, practical help and friendship.
“We look forward to seeing families welcomed in on opening day.”
