Wokingham Borough Council planning officials have approved plans to convert a former beauty salon into a residential annexe.
The application site at 330 Barkham Road consists of a historically residential building. The building was previously in use as a single dwelling until approximately 2009, when it was partitioned off and the front extension/garage was utilised as a beauty salon.
The approved plans involve the conversion of the existing salon space into a two-bedroom residential annexe.
Internally, the space would provide two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living/dining area and a kitchenette. The main access to the annexe would be through the main dwelling’s entrance door.
Agents for the owners, in its application, said: “The salon ceased trading due to reducing trade and increased operation costs.
“The premises are also in need of improvement to meet the expected standard of Salon accommodation, but the business model did not have the capacity for this investment.”
Wokingham Borough Council’s planning officers made the decision to approve the plans on August 28.
