TWO sixth formers have been inspired to set up a fundraising organisation to support the work of Vietnamese-based Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation (BDCF).
Blue Dragon Events, launched by Arthur Gordon-Harris and Tissot Do last year, in collaboration with BDCF, aims to raise £100,000 for the foundation, to help support Vietnamese street children and families in crisis, throughout Vietnam.
The friends’ fundraising journey began when Tissot invited Arthur to visit Vietnam.
There, Arthur witnessed first-hand the need to support and provide safety to street children, and the positive impact that Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation has on them, and on families facing crisis throughout Vietnam.
The foundation is a registered charity serving children and families in crisis throughout Vietnam.
It offers those in crisis the opportunity to turn their lives around, providing practical solutions to the daily problems they face.
Its focus on human trafficking attempts to combat the specific areas of children’s labour and that of women and girls trapped into sexual exploitation and forced marriages.
Tissot had worked with Blue Dragon as a volunteer, and has been directly involved with the charity’s work.
He had long hoped to make a lasting contribution to the charity’s mission and goals, and to expand their message globally.
When Arthur was invited by him to visit Hanoi, he met former street child Vi and, like Tissot, was inspired to commit to create change.
Together, the two friends drafted a plan for an annual fundraising event in England that would involve students from schools across the UK and create a student lead network to ignite change locally and globally.
Now the Marlborough College sixth formers are joint co-founders of Blue Dragon Events, and will hold their first fundraiser in Wokingham this week.
The event, a seven and a half kilometer fun run, will be supported by participants from 20 different schools, and will be attended by friends, family, and the general public.
As well as supporting the race, visitors can enjoy music, and refreshments from an array of food stalls and a well-stocked bar.
The event takes place place at Ludgrove School, on Sunday, July 7, at 11am.
Visitors are welcome but places must be pre-booked by email.
Funds raised from the event will go to the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.
