A SHINFIELD care home hosted a magical community movie night, bringing residents, families and local Cub Scouts together for a screening of The Wizard of Oz.
Shinfield View welcomed around 20 Cubs, 15 family and community members, and eight of its residents to enjoy the much-loved musical movie.
The home had planned to host the film outdoors, but when the weather didn’t cooperate, the event was moved indoors to the bistro, ensuring the evening could still go ahead.
Laura McSoley, Events Manager at Shinfield View, said: “We wanted to choose a film that our residents would love, but also one that the Cubs might not have seen before.
“The Wizard of Oz felt like the perfect choice.
“It’s an iconic musical with such memorable songs.
“The best part was seeing different generations come together.
“Listening to residents singing along and hearing the children laugh made the whole evening very special.”
Guests settled in with boxes of popcorn, pick ’n’ mix sweets, and drinks from the bar as they watched Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion journey down the Yellow Brick Road.
Residents sang along to Somewhere Over the Rainbow, while the Cubs and their families enjoyed the film’s lighter moments, particularly the sight of the Wicked Witch’s feet sticking out from under the house.
The Cubs, who visit Shinfield View every few months, also rolled up their sleeves at the end of the evening, helping to clear beanbags, sweep the floor and pack away equipment.
Their support and good spirits added to the community feel of the event, says the home.
Shinfield View runs regular intergenerational activities to strengthen bonds between residents and the local community.
