Former Reading FC star Michael Olise has been left out of France’s squad for the 2024 European Championships, while England manager Gareth Southgate was asked about the possibility of him playing for England in the future.
Olise, who broke through at Reading before making an impact for Premier League Crystal Palace, has impressed with several eye-catching displays throughout the season, but has not been selected by Didier Deschamps.
Olise, who played 73 times for Reading, has made seven appearances for France’s U21s side.
However, the 22-year-old is yet to make an international appearance for France and can still technically qualify for England.
Having named his provisional squad for the summer, England manager Gareth Southate was asked about Olise.
He said: “He would have to have a transfer of association. That process would take quite a while. He is obviously a very good player, he hasn’t made their squad, they might be taking him to the Olympics, I don’t know.
“He is a player we should have an interest in because he is a very good player but there is no way you could do all of that in time for the Euros.”
Despite having an injury hit season for Palace which meant he only managed 19 Premier League outings, the midfielder has caught the attention of numerous clubs around the world.
Olise has been subject to transfer speculation and after Palace managed to fend off interest from Chelsea last summer and tie him down to a new contract, it is likely that they will face another tough fight to keep hold of him this transfer window.
