Signs that appeared in Sonning last week promoting a “mega McDonald’s restaurant” in the village appeared to have been the work of a prolific south Oxfordshire urban artist Impro.
The anonymous figure has been responsible for various other installations in the village over the years, including a urinal and an ATM attached to the foot of Sonning bridge.
The latest work drew anger from a resident who contacted Wokingham Today.
They joked: “This is outrageous!
“I noticed McDonald’s evil plan for the leafy hamlet of Sonning on Thames.
“Sonning is plainly far too posh for this kind of nonsense and should hold out for at least a Burger King.
“Worse still it might attract the hoi polloi and frighten the horses, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see (village residents) George Clooney and Jimmy Page enjoying a surreptitious Mackey Dees after a night out on the lash in The Bull.”.
Mcdonald’s was approached for a comment, however no plans have been submitted to Wokingham borough council for a restaurant in the village.
