A PRIMARY school in Sonning is top of the class following the opening of its brand new library and reception area.
Pupils, parents and staff from Sonning CE Primary School, in Liguge Way, threw open the doors of the brand new extension and newly refurbished library on Friday, November 3.
The Reverend Jamie Taylor, from St Andrew’s Church in Sonning, cut the ribbon of the new reception area, and hoped the children would enjoy their new library.
He said: “I feel honoured to have been asked to open these new facilities on behalf of the Diocese of Northampton.
“First impressions are incredibly important, and I think you will all agree that visitors to this school will now have a fantastic first impression walking up to this brilliant new reception area.
“The library is such a beautiful building, and I would like to thank all those who have dreamed dreams to make it happen.”
Headteacher Luke Henderson said: “These new facilities have been a long-time coming, and I would like to thank all of the children who have behaved exceptionally well while the works have been carried out, never once complaining, and I hope they are all very proud of what we have achieved.
“The staff as well who have had to navigate a building site for the last nine months, and who have made do with a makeshift staff room and office, and even using the outside toilets which at times were frozen. I never heard any comments about how difficult it was. I would like to thank them for their hard-work and patience during that time.
“My thanks too to the Diocese who contributed more than £200,000 in total for the project, and to the PTA who raised an incredible £10,000 towards the library through cake sales, quiz nights and non-uniform days.
“The support of every single child, parent and family has brought us to where we are today and I thank you all.”
Sonning CE Primary School’s PTA was the winner of our Community Cash Token back in May, winning £200 which has been put towards the purchase of new books for the library.
