VISITORS to Twyford this month were able to enjoy a colourful display of village creativity.
Twyford Scarecrow Trail offered families the chance to hunt for a wide range of comic creations as they followed a map of the village.
Local residents and businesses contributed to the fun event, creating amusing and clever home-made scarecrows, which they then displayed in front gardens for scarecrow hunters to spot.
Jennifer Steele, one of the organisers, said: “It went really well, and people have been sending us great messages, saying how lovely it was to see families walking around with their maps.
“Grandparents said it gave them an opportunity to spend time with their grandchildren, and people said they really enjoyed chatting with other families they met on the trail.”
The theme this year was children’s literature, with scarecrows in the form of Bookshelf stars including: Paddington, Matilda, Christopher Robin, Dr Seuss’s Cat in the Hat, The Worst Witch, Peter Rabbit, The Wimpey Kid, The Grinch, Mog, The Christmasaurus,The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Superworm, Badger, Mr Men, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Stick Man, Goldilocks, Postman Pat, and Harry Potter.
The winners of this year’s funny and creative collection were: The Christmasaurus on Wargrave Road, which won first prize, Where’s Wally? on Winchcombe Road which came second, and Stick Man on Hurst Road, which won third place.
Lilly Blackwell won the prize draw.
“My personal favourites were Room on the Broom, a lovely surprise scarecrow hidden on a roof close to the Stick Man, and the one that made me laugh most was The Invisible Man,” said Jennifer.
As well as providing an entertaining walk, the trail gives an opportunity to raise funds for the village’s two local schools Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) at Polehampton Infant & Junior Schools and The Colleton Primary School.
This year’s event raised £965.14 which will be divided equally between the schools.
