One of Wokingham’s oldest pubs has been listed for sale.
The Hope & Anchor at the junction of Station Road and Shute End, is being marketed on several commercial property websites, with a £750,000 asking price for the freehold.
The listing for the Grade-II listed property highlights its features as being close to residential areas, town centre and station, three trade areas, a rear garden, three letting rooms and a three-bedroom flat.
The property, a former coaching inn, dates back to the 17th century. It is believed to have been built with timbers from a dismantled ship – hence its nautical name.
It is now a popular town centre venue for live music.
A spokesperson for the property owners, Brakspear, told Wokingham Today: “As part of our business process, and from a commercial perspective, we regularly review our estate for acquisitions and disposals.
“The Hope & Anchor has been identified as a potential disposal.
“In addition to the pub, the property now has permission for a four-bedroom home on the site.
“This will be an attractive proposition for a new owner.”
