A woman from Wokingham will run the London Marathon today (Sunday) to raise vital funds for Ambitious about Autism.
Beth Jones, who grew up in Exeter before moving to Berkshire, will take on the famous 26.2 mile running challenge across the capital.
Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for autistic children and young people. The charity started as one school and has become a movement for change. It champions rights, campaigns for change, and creates opportunities.
Beth, 45, was inspired to fundraise for Ambitious about Autism by her five-year-old son Zac, a “gorgeous little boy”, who is autistic and received his diagnosis at age three. Zac also has a heart condition, global development delay, severe hypermobility, and has experienced seizures.
Beth said: “I fought very hard over the course of almost a year to get Zac enrolled in a special school that can provide him with the support he needs. There are daily challenges that come with raising an autistic child, but despite these hurdles,
“ I continually strive to celebrate Zac for who he is and to ensure he has the opportunities he deserves. I chose to fundraise for Ambitious about Autism because I want to give something back to a charity that supports children like Zac, enabling them to thrive and navigate their own journeys.”
To boost her fundraising efforts, Beth has set up a fundraising pageand has secured an incredible £4,280 for the charity.
Danae Leaman-Hill, director of external affairs at Ambitious about Autism, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the dedication Beth has shown to autistic children and young people by taking part in this gruelling challenge.
“The funds and awareness she has raised allow us to continue our vital work that enables autistic children and young people to realise their ambitions.
“We wish Beth the very best of luck, and look forward to cheering her on as she approaches the finish line.”
