Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, was in Finchampstead on Friday to highlight the need for more funding and facilities for adult social care.
He told Wokingham Today: “This issue is deadly serious. We need to make sure we’re looking after our amazing elderly people.
“This fantastic care home’s doing a brilliant job, but we need more care homes and we need to make sure we value care much more.
“It’s a big issue in the local elections, but it’s no one’s talking about.
“Social care makes up as much as 80% of the budget for most councils, and yet .. only the Liberal Democrats are raising this issue.”
Describing his visit as the best of the local election campaign so far, he joined Wokingham MP Clive Jones, residents, relatives, staff, friends, and Strictly Come Dancing star Ian Waite at Wild Acres care home on Finchampstead Road, enjoying tea, cake and a dance.
Sir Ed even took time to enjoy a dance with 103-year-old Joan.
