Wokingham is set to get another new dining destination next month, with the opening of a new Indian restaurant.
Club India by Chef Awanish Roy will open its doors on July 10 at 355 Reading Road, formerly The Pheasant Pub.
Transforming this well-known local spot into a vibrant Indian restaurant and social hub, Club India aims to deliver an experience that lives up to its ethos of: “Heritage, Cuisine & Community.”
Chef Awanish Roy, who has cooked for British prime ministers and global celebrities, brings two decades of culinary expertise to Wokingham.
Having worked with top establishments like The Oberoi Hotels and The Cinnamon Club, he now returns to Wokingham to fulfil his lifelong dream of opening his own restaurant.
Occupying the expansive space of the former Pheasant pub, Club India boasts:
A Large Garden perfect for alfresco gatherings and family get-togethers
A renovated interior, offering a casual yet elegant area for dining and drinks from its dedicated ‘Madhushala’ Bar.
Multiple dining areas to accommodate diverse occasions, from intimate meals to community events.
Adding to the excitement is the involvement of Chef Srijith Gopinathan, a two-Michelin-starred pioneer renowned for his acclaimed Cal-Indian cuisine in San Francisco.
Chef Gopinathan previously led the kitchen at Taj Campton Place in San Francisco, where he earned two Michelin stars. His culinary journey also includes working in the prestigious kitchens of Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones at the two-Michelin-starred Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxford. He now resides in San Francisco, where he serves as chef and co-founder of multiple acclaimed establishments.
Chef Awanish Roy said: “Chef Srijith Gopinathan has been instrumental in the inception of Club India.
“Beyond his invaluable guidance, he’ll also be featuring exclusive dishes of his own creation on our very own menu.”
The venue also features an adjoining boutique hotel, aptly named ‘The Club Wokingham Hotel’, offering 12 en-suite double rooms.
Chef Roy added: “We’re thrilled to introduce Club India, a place where people can savour the depth and diversity of Indian cuisine.
“From our nostalgic family recipes to contemporary dishes developed with Chef Srijith, every item on the menu has a rich heritage behind it.
“We look forward to becoming a culinary and community hub in Wokingham.”
