TEN years ago, a single holiday camp at Highwood Primary School sparked something special, says Funtastic Kids.
What started in 2016 with a team of five, has grown into wrap-around care clubs and holiday camps across 25 schools in Berkshire, with more than 200 members of staff.

Funtastic Kids recently gathered to mark its 10th birthday with a celebration at the Rose Inn that brought together everyone who has been part of the group’s story; its staff , schools, and supporters.
Founder and director Louise Holloway was working as a deputy head when she saw first-hand how children’s experiences during the holidays helped benefit their transitions back into school.
“I started with camps which would benefit children from disadvantaged backgrounds or who had SEND needs, and where we could work to support their emotional development to help improve education outcomes,” she said.
“Emotional intelligence can carry far greater success than academic alone.
“Learning a wealth of social skills in a fun environment benefited so many children.”

Louise, who remains very hands on in her role, says that schools now approach Funtastic Kids to provide its wrap-around care, rather than it needing to market to schools.
“I love visiting the clubs and camps still, and feel so proud when the children greet me with warmth and excitement and know my name,” she said.
“Keeping children safe goes beyond the physical environment, and I am proud of my workforce for carrying my vision of nurture forward.
Donna has been with the company since its start.
She said: “I am proud to be the first supervisor Louise employed, and I am still enjoying my job now.”
Sports Coach and Playworker Alex, who grew up as part of the Funtastic Kids family, said: “It gave me the chance to support and inspire others while doing something I’m passionate about.”
Playworkers Harriet, Aysha and Natasha enjoy seeing familiar faces each holiday, and helping children enjoy learning and growing.
Natasha said: “I love it during summer when the children are playing outside and just running around enjoying themselves; they seem so carefree.”

Funtastic Kids thanks everyone who has helped make the last 10 years special.
