THE WOODLEY Festival of Music and Arts attracted a record number of local school children this year, all of whom came to take advantage of the platform the festival offers.
Held over three weekends it serves to inspire, encourage and support young children from reception age and older to showcase their talent.
There are five sections: Pianoforte, Vocal, Instrumental, Speech & Drama, and Choral.
“We welcomed 988 children to the Oakwood Centre in Woodley, and 24 choirs to Emmbrook School in Wokingham,” said festival co-chair Fiona Fisher.
“We were delighted that Mayor of Wokingham Borough Cll Carol Jewell attended the Choral section and Mayor of Woodley Town, Cllr David Bragg came to visit and watch some of the music classes.
“The contribution of all our volunteers is immense and very much appreciated.
“They make this festival the friendly and nurturing event that it is, and undeniably this festival could not go ahead without them.”
Colleton Primary School took part in the Group Choral Verse Class for Year 6 & under.

“Our Sponsor, Ann Manning, MD of Manning UK was so impressed that she awarded them the Perseverance Cup – testament to their tenacity, determination and courage,” said Fiona.

Actors from Queen Anne’s School also impressed, as well as Aveer, who came second with honours in his Piano Class grade 6.

Local Theatre School Platform YP entered a number of young actor/singers, and a Year 2 pupil from Crosfields School delighted the audience with her Verse Speaking.
