Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, attended the Breast Cancer Now Fashion Show at the Mansion House in London recently.
Taking part in the fashion show was Spencers Wood resident Claire Wraight, an educational psychologist, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022.
In 2023, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, meaning the disease had spread from the breast to other parts of her body. While metastatic breast cancer cannot be cured, modern treatments can significantly prolong life and help manage symptoms.
Aged 44, Claire took part in a national fashion show in London organised by the UK’s leading breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.
The show raises awareness that breast cancer can affect anyone, but it does not define patients or stop them from living full and meaningful lives.
Claire said she is feeling the best she has in three years and was looking forward to ticking modelling off her “life is for living” list.
Following the show, Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, said: “Having previously taken part in the fashion show as a breast cancer survivor myself, I know how important it is to live life to the fullest without being defined by a cancer diagnosis.
“I am incredibly proud of Claire for getting up on stage with 23 other people living with breast cancer.
“Breast cancer does not discriminate. Around 59,000 women and 420 men are diagnosed annually in the UK.
“It’s events like these that give people with cancer hope that there is a meaningful life after diagnosis. Well done, Claire.”
