Eleven Berkshire charities have been awarded their share of a £1 million fund by a global financial company.
The winning charities from the borough- voted for by more than 1,800 of Berkshire’s residents- are The Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, 211 Newbury Air Cadets, Babies in Buscot Support, Crowthorne Old Age to Teen Society, Driven Forward, Home-start Wokingham District, No.5 Young People, Priors Court Foundation, Sponsor a Nurse, The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation, and The Woodland Centre Trust.
Each of the organisations were nominated and voted for by locals in admiration of their work.
And the successful groups received a £1,000 donation as part of The Movement for Good awards.
The campaign- led by specialist insurer Ecclesiastical- saw the selection of 500 charities to receive the monetary grant.
The decision process included a random selection from the 7,000 charities nominated across the country.
Carly Newman Operations and Relationship Officer for one of the winning charities said:
“We at No.5 Young People are absolutely delighted to have won this award, and cannot thank the public enough for taking the time to nominate us.
“No.5 has been supporting the mental health of children and young people in the RG postcode area for 48 years and these nominations show what impact early-intervention can have on the lives of young people and those around them.
“This donation will fund four young people in need to each receive a life-changing 5 months of counselling and mental health support. It will give them the vital time and space needed to be heard and equip them with skills that will last a lifetime.”
Annabel Hill- fundraiser for winning charity Camp Mohawk, The Woodland Centre Trust- also said: “The fantastic donation from Movement for Good is truly appreciated as it will help us to continue supporting these families who describe us as their lifeline as so few places are fully accessible for them.
“Camp Mohawk provides a day-centre with specially adapted facilities for children with special needs, where they can enjoy childhood fun with their whole family – something many of us take for granted. ”
In total, an impressive 98,000 people assisted the company in acknowledging the selfless work of individuals throughout the UK.

And the company’s charitable support does not end there. Later this summer, a further 10 charities will be selected to receive £50,000 from Ecclesiastical to be put towards projects including the improvement of education, skills, arts, culture, citizenship or community development.
The judging criteria focuses on areas such as impact, sustainability, innovation, and compassion.
To apply for the grant charities must do so by Friday, July 26. Winners will be announced from Monday, September 30.
