Former Reading FC midfielder Bobby Convey expressed his delight at being back with the Royals to help celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary.
Convey played his part back on the field where he played a huge role in helping achieve their first ever promotion to the top flight in 2005/06.
“It was great to be with everybody again and get one last hurrah to have a final moment with both the teams and the fans,” said Convey
“Once you’re not worried about getting injured, after that it’s great to get out there, relive some of the memories, get running around again with the guys and this is a once in a lifetime thing so it’s so brilliant that everyone was out there to celebrate.
“I haven’t played in eight or nine years so I was lucky to play 45 minutes so I think that was good enough.
“It was a more relaxed atmosphere than usual. It was funny to be back in the dressing room with the boss and the chairman came in which is always funny too so it was great to have them both in there with a bunch of the other backroom staff.”
The USA international reminisced on his days with the Royals, where he played 45 of the 46 league matches, scoring seven times, to help Reading to a huge total of 106 points on their way to winning the Championship title.
He also played 29 games across two seasons in the Premier League for the club before returning to the MLS in 2009.
Convey continued: “I spent some of the best days of my career here and the year we went up it was a real team environment, everyone had a great go and we all really enjoyed it.
“We were a big family growing up together at the same time so it was so great.
“I’m still able to keep in touch with the club and follow their results, obviously that’s a lot easier these days so I like to keep up with what’s going on.”
