Police have carried out night-time speed checks at several locations in Bracknell after residents asked officers to focus on speeding.
The Bracknell South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said speeding was identified as a priority in a community survey held in July.
Residents subsequently asked for enforcement to take place at night, prompting officers to carry out checks on 14 August.
PC Murphy and PCSO Barrow visited four locations:
– Holbeck and Great Hollands Road, where the limit is 30mph
– Falcon Way in Jennett’s Park, where the limit is 30mph
– Ringmead near Easthampstead Park School, where the limit was recently reduced to 20mph
– Ringmead near South Hill Park, where the limit is 30mph
Police said they were pleased to report that all drivers observed during the checks were travelling within the signposted speed limits.
PC Murphy said officers were able to carry out the checks from a police vehicle while positioning themselves far enough back and out of sight to detect vehicles approaching a corner before drivers had an opportunity to react to their presence.
“We wear high-visibility jackets to assist with safely stopping vehicles when required,” PC Murphy said.
“This isn’t about trying to ‘stand out like a sore thumb’ and we are still a substantial distance from the point at which a vehicle’s speed can be detected.
“Drivers therefore have very little opportunity to slow their speed upon seeing us.”
The neighbourhood policing team said the checks followed requests from the local community for greater attention to speeding, including enforcement during the night.
