20-year-old Bobby from Wokingham, who lives with autism, is celebrating after his third consecutive race win with Team BRIT.
Bobby raced as a rookie in the BMW 116 Trophy, and competed in the third round at Snetterton on Saturday July 6th.
From a grid of 13 cars, Bobby and his two Team BRIT team mates performed well in the morning’s qualifying, with Bobby in P4, Matty Street in P10 and Rich Newton in P11.
Expectations were high for Bobby following his unbeaten record, but it looked like he was to face a challenge after he qualified 1 second behind the leader, on an incredibly wet track.
Soon after the afternoon’s 90 minute race got underway, the crew reported that Bobby had moved into third, then second, and by the time the cars returned to the home straight at the end of the first lap, he had already overtaken and moved to P1, where he remained for the rest of the race. His staggering performance saw him finish 2 mins 32 seconds ahead of P2
Matty finished in 4th and Rich sadly didn’t finish due to a technical fault but was awarded ‘Driver of the Day’ from race organisers following his impressive performance.
“Once again, I am completely overwhelmed to have come away with the win,” said Bobby.
“I have good knowledge of driving from my years of karting, which really helped me on Saturday as we had changeable conditions, starting with a very wet track which soon dried out. Luckily I was able to put that to good use.
“Our race engineer, Al Locke and his team set the car up to perfection and I couldn’t have done it without them. A huge thank you to team Brit.”
Bobby will face his next test in the fourth round of the BMW 116 Trophy at Brands Hatch on the 17th August.
