DESPITE the recent showers, dessert-lovers are having their taste buds taken to the tropics thanks to a cafe’s summer range.
Creams, branded “The UK’s Favourite Dessert Parlour”, has introduced its new retro-laced menu, which will be available to enjoy until the end of September.
Reading Today was given the opportunity to try some of the seasonal offerings at Creams’ Oxford Road branch – and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
From the summer menu, the Lemon Meringue Cheescaknundae and Retro Rocket Sundae presented the biggest, and most impressive, propositions.
The former, a unique take on a classic lemon meringue cheesecake-pie, provided a sweet and sour hit of everything tangy and tasteful. Vanilla soft serve, lemon curd sauce, passionfruit crunch, speculoos crumb, lemon slices and a signature Creams wafer made for the ultimate summer mash-up.
The Hundreds and Thousands sitting atop the Retro Rocket Sundae, and the ice rocket lolly poking out of it, were nostalgic reminders of eras past.
There were also a trio of drinks to quench the thirst, each cool, creative and non-alcoholic. Pina Collider featured crushed ice with pina colada syrup and exotic mango coulis, topped with whipped cream and desiccated coconut.
The Lawnstar Partini was a more fruity experience, with passion fruit puree, grapefruit juice, vanilla syrup and fresh passion fruit and sparkling water making for a refreshing serve.
But the piece de resistance was the Chilli Vanilly Latte, which perfectly combined two typically distinct characteristics: sugar and spice. With three heat levels available, it’s up to the customer how daring they go.
Chilli and vanilla syrups were blended with coffee, milk and ice, all of which was topped off with whipped cream and chilli powder.
With items ranging from £2.45 to £9.95, the summer menu is certainly one to try before it goes in the autumn. It is available to eat-in, take away and deliver home.
