A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm following a ‘shooting’ at an Emmbrook pub last night.
Thames Valley Police were called to The Dog & Duck in Matthewsgreen Road at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 23, after a skylight in the pub’s conservatory area was hit by a projectile of some kind. Although the window was shattered, because it was made of tempered glass it remained in the frame.
As we reported last night, the pub remained open as normal and customers kept calm and carried on. No one was injured.
Because of the nature of the incident, armed police were seen in the area around the pub and The Wokingham Paper understands that police dogs were also used in the investigation.
This morning, police said that a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. As we went to press, he remained in custody.
Staff from the pub were unable to comment but a customer told The Wokingham Paper that the incident took place around 8.20pm on Saturday, March 23.
“Thankfully, no one was underneath it at the time and no one was injured,” they said.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “We were called to an incident on Matthewsgreen Road, Wokingham at around 8.30pm yesterday.
“Officers attended the scene where an imitation firearm had been seen.
“There were no injuries.
“A 37-year-old man from Wokingham has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
“He remains in police custody.”
