A TEACHER who specialises in helping children aged seven and under discover music is marking a decade in business this month.
Sarah Barrett runs Kindermusik classes from her East Reading workshop.
She started with one class of six children, and now runs 27 sessions six days a week, reaching nearly 200 babies, toddlers and children each week.
As well as the weekly classes, Kindermusik offers baby massage, school holiday music sessions and recorder classes for older children.
Kindermusik works across 70 countries worldwide, and during her past seven years, Ms Barrett has been recognised as one of the top teachers, gaining ‘Top Programme’ status every year and, in 2022, was recognised as one of the top 20 Kindermusik teachers in the world.
She has recently been part of an international team of educators responsible for revising the Kindermusik Musicians curricula for school-aged children and, later this month will head to the US as part of the presenting team at the Kindermusik International conference.
To mark the anniversary, she held a party for current clients and welcomed older siblings for a parent and child Kindermusik orchestra.
One family who has been with Ms Barrett from day one is headed up by mum Kat.
She said: “I took my two-month-old son to Sarah’s very first class, at a time when I was in the new parent haze and trying all kinds of options to keep us both entertained.
“In the 10 years since then both my children have been start-to-finish Kindermusik Kids, both with a love of music that they’ve carried forward to orchestral instruments.
“And I’ve met some of my closest friends through the classes.
“Even though my daughter graduates in July this year we’ll always be one of Sarah’s Kindermusik families at heart.”
Ms Barrett said she was delighted to be celebrating a decade as a growing small business in Reading.
“Every week we make music with our young people and their families and every week we see them grow as individuals and musicians,” she said.
“The last few years have not been easy for any small business but we have tried to adapt to the needs of our families at every step and I am incredibly grateful to our loyal customers who have journeyed with us – some even for the full 10 years.”
